Vegans & Vegetarians making a difference!
I have been vegan for five years now and before that vegetarian for a number of years. All it took for me to make the change was some education about the issues and this is what inspires me to try and inform others. A large part of my life is spent defending animal rights: through letter writing/email campaigns, leafleting the public, doing stalls, fundraising, promoting veganism and generally spreading awareness in any way I can. Though my efforts are peaceful and law-abiding I have enormous respect for anyone who risks their freedom to protect and liberate animals from cruelty and abuse. I thoroughly recommend that people interested in learning about this subject should watch a film about the Animal Liberation Movement called "Behind the Mask". Combining real footage of demos and ALF actions, interspersed with commentary by a range of activists and supporters, and a great music soundtrack, it is an action packed, fast paced, yet moving and thoughtful film, which gives a unique insight into the contemporary animal rights movement.
Details of the film can be found here
The DVD is available to buy within the UK. Payment can be made by cheque and also securely on-line using PayPal (a PayPal account is not required, just a valid debit or credit card) Click here to order
I similarly recommend that people with an interest in animal rights get hold of a copy of a book called From Dusk 'til Dawn by Keith Mann. This huge work is not just a history book but a moving personal account too. Details can be found here and orders can be placed via the site.
I also love to cook and enjoy showing people how delicious vegan food can be! I provide a catering service in my area (Exeter) - my website can be found by clicking on the banner.
I strive to leave as light a footprint on this planet as I can and to lessen as much animal suffering as I can because I believe that if we don't speak up to protect the most vulnerable - ie: the voiceless and defenceless animals of this world - against violence and abuse then what hope is there for the future of this so called civilised society of ours?
This quote pretty much sums it up...
"Aren't Humans Amazing Animals?
They will kill wildlife - birds, deer, kangaroo, all kinds of cats, coyotes, ground-hogs, mice, foxes, dingoes - by the million in order to protect their domestic animals and their food.
Then they kill domestic animals by the billion and eat them.
This in turn kills humans by the million because eating all those animals leads to degenerate and fatal health conditions like heart disease, kidney disease and cancer.
So then humans torture and kill millions more animals to look for a cure for these diseases.
Elsewhere, millions of other human beings are being killed by hunger and malnutrition because food they could eat is being used to fatten domestic animals.
Meanwhile some people are dying of sad laughter at the absurdity of humans, who kill so easily and so violently, and once a year send cards out praying for 'Peace on Earth'.“ —Anon
