Well, I effectively "came out" as vegan to my parents over the weekend. I told them that I purchase, prepare, and eat that way when left to my own devices. I also said that as long as the fare was strictly vegetarian, I wouldn't refuse or insult the generosity of others, namely them and my friends.

As a poor student, I am especially grateful when someone offers to feed me. Every incident of hospitality gives me a few more dollars to spend on decent veggies, and keeps the lights on too.… Continue
