I know the one thing our diet lacks is Vitamin B12, but I'm not sure if this is a vitamin you can OD on, or if it's like vitamin C where if your body gets too much, you just pee it out. How much should I be taking, and what's a safe amount?
From what I've read, you should be more concerned with getting enough B12, rather than too much. I take VegLife's daily multivitamin which has 100mcg of B12. Silk Soymilk is also fortified with B12. Your body does store excess B12 for later use, but I haven't read anything about OD-ing on it.
I drink Silk, but wasn't sure if it had enough B12 in it. I do have a B12 supplement, but I wasn't sure how often I should be taking it, and if it was safe enough to be taking every day. But I suppose not having enough is pretty dangerous too, from what that site says!
Here in the U.K. we have yeast extract, Marmite or the Australian Vegemite, which are just about the best source of B12 outside of an omnivorous diet. Several soya milks & also breakfast cereals are fortified with B12 amongst other things.
Ahhh, I used to live in New Zealand where my mom became a HUGE fan of Vegemite. Myself, not so much, but I'd forgotten that it was such an incredible source of B12. Is it completely vegan, or just vegetarian? If it's vegan, I'll have to figure out where to get some.
Buying bread from a man in Brusselllllllls
He was six foot four and full of muscllllles
I said, "Do you speak-a my languaaaage?"
He just smiled and gave me a Vegemite... sandwich!
If that's not what you meant, I just assaulted you with a big dose of the 80s anyway! Sorry about that!
I just moved from Arizona to a farm on Ohio. Talk about a maaajor change.
Glad to know it's vegan. I think I saw some at Kroger here. That and Nutella... which I'm pretty sure isn't vegan, although it certainly is yummy :o(

Most vitamins are water soluble, meaning they can be broken down and used easily with the body's water. The left over is easily gotten rid of via urine, sweat etc..The ones that are fat soluble are the ones you need to be careful taking too much of...these are A, D, E & K...
Ah ha! Thank you, echo! I always worry about whether or not a vitamin I'm taking is one that I should be cautious of. So basically, I'll pee out any B12 my body's not going to use?
And thank you, Yvonne! I haven't read the whole thing yet, but wow, this looks awesome. Lots of information here!
