Vegans & Vegetarians making a difference!

Vegetarian = better complexion?

I have been a lacto-ovo vegetarian for about four years now. About six weeks or so ago, I decided to really cut back on dairy/eggs and move toward a completely animal-product-free diet. I already wasn't eating a lot of cheese or eggs, so it was pretty easy to do.

All of a sudden, in the last one or two weeks, I've had a bunch of people ask me what I'm doing differently with my skin care. I've always had a pretty nice complexion, but it's getting better.

I do take care of my skin but I haven't been doing anything different for months. Yesterday someone came up and said, "You obviously get facials, will you tell me where you go?" I haven't had a facial in months.

The only thing I can figure is the lack of dairy. Could this be the case?

hi again kellie!

i was hoping some others would reply to you but it seems that everyone is on vacation. (i hope you saw my last reply to you on the other thread too - we sort of ran out of reply indentations :D)

lack of dairy is definitely going to improve your complexion. large animal proteins cause serious handling problems for the body. they don't get broken down properly and wander around the body causing the immune system to go on alert producing antibodies. these attack the protein (thinking they are antigens - the condition is called protein antigeneity) and start depositing themselves all over the place resulting in inflammatory conditions like asthma (in the lungs), arthritis (in the joints) and excema (on the skin). one doesn't have to get fully blown excema to notice that there are some skin problems though.

you may have heard the amusing "got milk, got zits"? well it's no joke. the body is trying to cleanse itself of the noxious effects of dairy.

i used to know veghaven member sangeeta kumar (http://www.veghaven.org/xn/detail/u_zvveuj9fdbte) when she was in high school. she was a lifelong lacto-vegetarian, but with a bit of explanation she dumped the dairy. not only did she 'thin out' to her proper weight, i recall telling her one day that she was radiant - she really was because her skin cleared up and seemed to glow.

alicia silverstone found the same thing happened to her as have many others.

just type dairy complexion into google and you'll find plenty of stuff on this (with the usual denials from dairy users). i believe dairy may be good for the skin in one situation (milk baths :D ), but you have to be pretty desperate and delusional in the first place to resort to that when the obvious course of action is to eliminate dairy from your diet.

in friendship,
prad

Quitting dairy made my acne disappear. I had been struggling with it for most of my life, well into my thirties. It definitely makes a difference! Going vegan also made my monthly cramps and headaches go away and I no longer have to take any medications.
