Welcome to the F-U-N Vegetarian Community!

Before we get to the fun we have one reality check to complete.
The video below shows what happens every day around the world.

I swear, after this video, we're a lot of F-U-N!

"A human being is a part of the whole called by us "Universe," a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings as something separated from the rest- a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty". Albert Einstein

Welcome!

Many people will find the above video shocking but one needs to keep in mind that what appears on that video is what happens every day around the world.

It's not some special report or some special interest. It's simply a video showing what happens every day all over the world.

Take pride my friend! Know what a tremendous difference you're making in the world when you follow a plant based diet. Your participation here is making a difference.

Vegans and Vegetarians like you are part of a human revolution that's making a real differnce in the world.

Be proud. The fight for the environment, the fight for animals is not "out there" somewhere. It's in living rooms and homes like yours. It's on dinner tables accross the world every night of the week.

Whether you care about animals or you want to help the environment; moving to a plant based diet is the single most impactful thing you can do!

If you're not Vegetarian or Vegan you're welcome here too. In fact we consider it an honor to help people learn more so they can make an informed decision. We have no judgements on where you are right now. All that we ask is that your participation here be sincere.

Use the resources on this site, ask others their experiance and use this community as a tool to help you achieve your highest human potential.

Namaste,
Chris Tinney

+ Cell Phone Use May Cause Cancer - says Leading Cancer Institute +

Cancer institute warns of cellphone risks PITTSBURGH — The head of a prominent cancer research institute issued an unprecedented warning to his faculty and staff Wednesday: Limit cellphone use because of the possible risk of cancer. The warning from Dr. Ronald B. Herberman, director of the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute, is contrary to numerous studies that don't find a link between cancer and cellphone use, and a public lack of worry by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. ++ Is Your Produce Clean? The Good, the Bad and the Ugly ++

Produce: The Dirtiest and the Cleanest These days, we have more options for organic produce than ever before. Trends show that more consumers are buying organic more frequently because of concerns about health, pesticide exposure, and the environment. But when you stroll into the produce section, do you ever wonder which organic fruits and vegetables you should be buying? Since organic foods are often more expensive, it's important to know what to look for, so you don't end up paying extra for… Continue

mutant bugs.

I’m reading an article about multi-drug resistant “superbugs” like MRSA, etc. Of course these quotes struck me, “We’ve created a petri dish in our factory farms for the evolution of dangerous pathogens” and “The researchers developed a mathematical model that suggested that the impact of the transmission of these bacteria from agriculture may be more significant than that of hospital transmissions.” I knew that the use of antibiotics in industrial farming had severely diminished the effectivenes… Continue

The past 48 Hours...

Already mentioned the "getting the hang of work" thing and the "had fun shopping for food" thing, so I'll just move into the 48 Hour Film thing. Thanks to Shannon for getting me a ticket, I had a seat at the Alamo Drafthouse to watch a series of short films made by teams of people in the San Antonio area that were being judged against one another in a competition. The project I was a part of, working with Carlos Pina and Haunted House studio, turned out a pretty decent film. It got some big lau… Continue

In July I...

* Started my new job at Express. * Helped out a close friend with a situation of hers by letter her stay with me for a week while she sorted some things out. * Started working out regularly and eating better (towards the end on July 28th). * Hung out with my brother for the 4th of July. * Went to the Dog Men Poets CD release party at Music Town. Enjoyed the music a lot and met up with a girl I went to high school with. She asked me for my contact information, which is great because she is be… Continue

In June I...

* Visited my mom for her 70th birthday (June 4th)

* Witnessed Senator Barack Obama become the presumptive nominee of the Democratic Party for the office of President of the United States, and was elated because of it.

* Went to church and saw my supervisor from my old job there. We hadn't talked for months and the first thing he says to me is "Okay, where is she?" I said "Who?" He said "The only reason you would be at church is if some girl asked you to go with her." The fucker was ri…

In May I...

[The next three month recaps are going to be pretty sparse since I didn't keep any notes during this time. Plenty went on, I just don't remember.]

* Played beer pong with the friends and family (second time I'd done that). Had a blast. It helped distract me from a Spurs loss.

* Went to Austin. Don't go as much now since gas prices went north.

* Saw Iron-Man, There Will Be Blood, Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull, Kung Pow, and Interstella 5555 (the last two I've seen a dozen…

A Sad Day for Adelaide and I

My previous rant was in part due to my anger over those things, but mostly my anger over a very sad day for me. (I was so angry I yelled at my cat Lucifer for pooping in my rabbit's hay...I was mean mommy). Now I've moved past anger into sadness (is that the second stage of the grieving process?). So I wanted to tell my sad story.... It all started Tuesday, August 12, with a trip to our county fair with my friend, Kim. Kim knows my love for animals and always indulges my lenghty trips to the ag… Continue

A Rant (forgive the expletives)

I am having some serious issues with the choices various company's are making regarding their advertisements. First, Wendy's there is NO such thing as a meatatarian. Perhaps you are confused and are thinking of carnviores. To further assist you, let me also inform you that human beings are NOT carnivores. Never have been, never will be (unless scientists step in...). Why are humans not carnivores? Because we have flat molars and our two canines could not rip skin and flesh right off the bone. B… Continue

Vegan Shrimp

Going to bed last night, or actually this morning, at 8:30 am usually means that it's going to be a rough day. Not the case today. I even had the additional incident of my alarm clock not working properly and me getting up on my own power at noon so I could make it to work at 1:00 pm. Still, with that and no time for breakfast, I still managed to have a glass of grape juice, battle street repair on Babcock, get to work only 8 minutes late, have a great day at work and then do some grocery shoppi… Continue

My vegan documentary project needs your help

I’m pleased to announce that in the past three months or so, I've raised $19,685 for "I'm Vegan"! That means I am only $2,315 away from getting started on pre-production, perhaps as early as this September. I’ll need your help squeaking out that last bit, either directly, or by sending this information to friends you think would be interested in supporting I’m Vegan with a pledge of any amount. As a reminder, I’m Vegan is a series of short documentary profiles featuring vegans from all walks of… Continue

+ California may Ban 'Bisphenol A' in Baby Products +

Calif. lawmakers weigh chemical ban in baby items SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Responding to growing consumer anxiety, California lawmakers are considering enacting what could be the first statewide restrictions on a chemical found in plastic baby bottles and infant formula cans. The bill would require that all products or food containers designed for children 3 years and younger contain only trace amounts of the chemical, bisphenol A. There is little dispute that bisphenol A can disrupt the hormonal s… Continue

+++ How to Prevent and Deal with Identity Theft - Must Read +++

Identity Theft - A Primer Fraud is an act that occurs when someone uses your account to make unauthorized purchases. Most times this happens after your card (or card number) has been stolen. Identity theft is different than fraud. It is the act that occurs when someone steals your vital information (social security number, birthdate, etc) in an effort to open a new account in your name. Ultimately, the goal of the person committing identity theft is to make unauthorized purchases with the new… Continue

I saw a shooting star...

... for the first time in my life.

See, THIS is why I don't mind taking out the trash at night.

In other news...

First Bernie Mac, now Isaac Hayes?!?!? Who's taking out our legendary black performers, huh? It's a damn shame, regarding both their deaths, but the Bernie Mac one hit a little harder since he was only 50 and he had plenty of career and life left. Bernie's death even struck me as more profound than Heath Ledger's (not that we're ranking these sort of events, of cour…

Got Baobab? African 'Tree of Life' Recast as Superfruit...

African 'tree of life' recast as European superfruit by Stephanie van den Berg FANDENE, Senegal - In Senegal, villagers have always known about the health benefits of baobab fruit, which only now have been discovered by Europe in what could spell magic for localities like Fandene. The ancient, hardy species also known as the "tree of life" is scattered across the African savannah, some said to date back to the time of Christ. Locals use nearly every part of the tree, whose processed fruit was… Continue
