Vegans & Vegetarians making a difference!

A vegetarian restaurant owner serving foie gras, oxtail ravioli and veal cheeks???

I am looking for some rationalization to the following story. We are protesting restaurants that sell foie gras here in Baltimore and the surrounding area. One restaurant in particular is very stubborn. The mother/son owners will not budge on the foie gras. This is the best part. While doing a google search, I found out from a article on the restaurant that the mother is a vegetarian!! What the #%@*??? How could this be? The foie gras is the specialty along with the oxtail ravioli and veal cheeks! WTF? Are you kidding me? Any thoughts????

The world is full of hypocrites. Meat, especially "trendy" or "upscale" meat products, has a high profit margin. Is the mother a part owner of the restaurant? I find it hard to believe that a vegetarian would be financially involved in a business like that.

The mother is 50% owner and I found an article online from April 07 where her son says she is a vegetarian.

sigh. it's sad when profit means more than morals. but people are veggie for different reasons; maybe she's one of those "health" types who doesn't care about animal suffering, only her own cholesterol. i have veggie friends who don't eat meat because they don't agree with the factory farming and slaughterhouse methods used in america, but they don't have a problem with hunting, or wearing leather or goose down.

either way, anyone who capitalizes on cruelty sucks at life.

vegetarian just means they eat a plant based diet. it certainly doesn't say anything about their morals overall.

people eat plant-based diets for various reasons such as health and/or environment and/or ethics.

meaters sometimes try to put forth the idea that hitler was a vegetarian (which he wasn't even close to being, btw, he was only told by his doctor to eat vegetarian for some gastric ailment) because the rest of his morals being non-existent, they like to think they've scored a great victory.

there is admittedly a certain amount of 'glamour' that goes with a vegetarian diet that some people try to capitalize on. we had a restaurant in a neighbouring city which was vegetarian though the owner wasn't and didn't even like the concept, but figured this was possibly a lucrative niche. the owner was also really strange in that she thought john robbins advocated eating some animal proteins.

so being vegetarian is a good first step. figuring out why you are is what's really important.

in friendship,
prad

I find that awful. I would think that if the mother is a vegetarian and part owner, she would be against cooking and serving meat. I agree that it is hypocritical of her to be a vegetarian and have meat on the menu at the restaurant. I even know how veal is treated before being killed. I personally will not sit at the dinner table if someone orders veal or lamb. I think she should think about how that looks. By being a vegetarian but having meat on the restaurant menu, I think she's not representing vegetarians very well and I do consider the act of being a vegetarian but still serving meat at the restaurant an insult. I find it very sad when profit matters more than the suffering of animals.

she probably thinks she can sell the variety of meat for money and still classify herself as a vegetarian! what a hippocrite..to say the least. she should be ashamed, being a vegetarian is not only about not eating it its supporting our friends! she must do it for health reasons but still...noooo. what selfishness.
